The projectionist of the only cinema in the town of Vervins in Aisne is retiring after six decades.

From large peplums to Titanic, Edmond Bourgeois will have launched some box office successes. Six decades of cinephilia which will end with a classic of French comedy. With at least four sessions to ensure each week, the projectionist has posted countless hours since his beginnings as a usher at the age of 13. “It’s still a pleasure to see people leave the cinema happy”, says the enthusiast.

It is the work of a lifetime for this former tax agent who will have sacrificed his weekends and his evenings. A commitment hailed by the town of Vervins and the surrounding inhabitants. Twelve of them will take turns to take over from the projectionist and thus maintain a campaign session. “We have an audience, which expects a screening at a certain time, and we have no room for error”, describes Virginie Bouxin, one of the volunteers.
