Stars, glitter, a red carpet and a whole bunch of films to discover! The 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicks off this Tuesday, May 17. The opportunity for all actors in the world of cinema to meet and discuss. Camille Girard, the programmer of the Apollo cinema in Châteauroux, will be making the trip in a few days with a busy schedule: “I’m going to go see films, see films and see more films”.
“It’s mainly the reason why I go there: to watch movies and meet some brothers and sistershe explains. In Cannes, we see a lot of films, it gives a kind of cinematographic color of the year. It’s a way of taking the temperature”. Camille Girard plans to discover films from the Official Selectionbut also the Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week.
A way to have an extremely wide panorama of the cinematographic production to come
“We are always looking for the nuggetcontinues the Castelroussin. There are obviously confirmed directors, but I’m going to go instead to unknown directors to try to find this nugget, this film which comes a bit from nowhere and which will capsize cinephilia for the coming year “. But for that, you will have to be patient. “Even when you’re professional and you’re accredited, you still have to queue a lot to get into theaters, sometimes you queue longer than the duration of the film!he says. So we have time to chat with the people we meet at the release of the film we saw previously”.
“That’s also what makes Cannes so charming, because there’s the bling bling side, the folkloric side and at the same time, it’s still the great moment of cinephilia, where people are able to queuing for 2 hours to see a 3:15 film. And that’s still exceptional”rejoices Camille Girard.
The opening ceremony to follow live from the Apollo
To experience the parade of stars on the Croisette as if you were there, the Apollo cinema offers this Tuesday the live broadcast of the opening ceremony of the festival. It’s from 7 p.m. and it’s free. “We’re going to have fun climbing the stairs… but at the Apollo in Châteauroux!”, smiles Camille Girard. Then, five short films from last year’s Official Competition will be screened (7.5 euros).
