During a neighbor’s birthday party in Espinasse-Vozelle (Allier), Saturday July 13, a 57-year-old former soldier opened fire. The investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances of the deaths of the four men.
Nearly two days after the incident, investigators are gradually establishing the circumstances of the shooting that cost the lives of four people. On Monday, July 15, the profile of the shooter who killed himself is becoming clearer. On Saturday evening, around 9 p.m., a birthday party bringing together around twenty people was held in a house on the heights of the village of Espinasse-Vozelle (Allier). The 20-year-old man, who was celebrating his birthday, was riding a motorbike with a friend. They were alerted by shouts or insults coming from the neighbor’s house. A little later, they returned to the scene, and when they approached, the man armed with a shotgun opened fire on them several times.
The 20-year-old boy, initially wounded in the legs, was fatally shot again. At a press conference, the Cusset public prosecutor said that the shooter then walked 500 meters before killing the young man’s father, followed by the godfather in a field before committing suicide. Aged 57 and a former soldier assigned to aerial surveillance, he had no criminal record. In his house, the police found five weapons and more than 450 rounds of ammunition. Described as solitary and irascible, the man seemed to live as a recluse.
