While negotiations are underway in Cairo between the United States, Qatar and Hamas to request a ceasefire before Ramadan in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, Republican President Eric Ciotti, invited Tuesday March 5 on franceinfo, believes that the priority, “before the ceasefire, it is the release of the hostages”.
“Israel was attacked in a barbaric, terrifying way and the State of Israel has the right to protect itself for its security. I support Israel’s approach”he says, while the Hamas Ministry of Health announces this Tuesday a death toll of 30,631, and the Pentagon puts forward the figure of 25,000 dead, after five months of war.
He does not imagine that we can take sanctions against Israel because “it is naturally ridiculous to sanction a State which is defending itself, which has experienced the worst terrorist act since September 11”. He … not “do not compare the actions of each other” and wish “let us eradicate Hamas”thanks in particular to a “international action” against Hamas leaders who are located abroad and not in the Gaza Strip, “because there has been too much complacency, too much funding”.
Finally, he reaffirms his personal position which is to recognize Jerusalem as the indivisible capital of the State of Israel, but recalls that “this is my position” and not that of the LR party or the European candidate François-Xavier Bellamy. This is a position defended by Israel, and recognized by Donald Trump in 2018, while the UN believes that the final status of the city must be negotiated between Israelis and Palestinians.
