The Printemps du Cinéma is “a signal to all French people” to say “yes, the cinema is here. It is waiting for you”, explains the National Federation of French Cinemas

During this operation, the sessions are at the preferential price of 5 euros until Tuesday. “It’s an exceptional price for three days in all theaters in France”, explains Marc-Olivier Sebbag.

The Spring of Cinema, “it’s a signal to all French people” to say “yes, the cinema is here. It is waiting for you, come to the cinema”, explained this Sunday on franceinfo Marc-Olivier Sebbag, general delegate of the National Federation of French Cinemas which is piloting the operation. The dark rooms of all France welcome this Sunday and until Tuesday the spectators for a preferential rate of 5 euros. The price has increased by 1 euro compared to previous editions: “Inflation also affects cinemas. What is a cinema? It’s a film and light, so electricity to project the film”he explained.

franceinfo: Why did you increase the price?

Marc-Olivier Sebbag: This price of 4 euros existed for seven years. We had not increased for seven years. And you know that inflation also affects cinemas. What is a movie theater? It is a film and light, therefore electricity to project this film. Electricity has increased significantly and the price of the Printemps du Cinéma had to be upgraded. This is an exceptional rate for three days in all theaters in France. It allows all viewers to see a film, two films, three films. We can talk about the two films that have made the most admissions since the start of 2023 Alibi.com 2 And Asterix. With such exceptional prices, promotional operations such as the Film Festival and the Printemps du Cinéma are opportunities to meet in theaters, events for all spectators.

Who is this operation for?

First of all, it’s a signal, an event, to tell all French people whether they’re used to it, whether they’re occasional, whether they’re assiduous, “yes, the cinema is here. It’s waiting for you, come at the cinema, there are plenty of films for you”. Arthouse films, mainstream films, French films, foreign films, American films. This is the event side of the operation. Secondly, it is primarily a tariff operation. It’s lowering the price of the cinema so that everyone can go there once, twice, three times. And then it’s a spotlight on films because we first go to the cinema to see films more than for a price or to participate in an event.

Is this an opportunity to shine the spotlight on less mainstream films?

Since the beginning of the year, there have been successes in all film registers. There are movies like aftersun for example, which is a very arthouse film that did extremely well, The Asada family a Japanese film which also did very well. We can cite Emilythe film about Emily Brontë or The room of wonders with Alexandra Lamy.
