In a very sparsely filled Louis-II stadium, where Braga supporters were the loudest, AS Monaco were held in check by the Portuguese club (1-1), Thursday March 17, on the occasion of the eighth final second leg of the Europa League. A draw with the taste of defeat since the Monegasques did not catch up with their two goals behind, conceded in the first leg. Philippe Clément’s men notably came up against an excellent Matheus in the Bracarian cages and therefore left the European Cup by the back door.

Determination and efficiency, these are the two ingredients that AS Monaco had to find to hope to overthrow SC Braga. Unfortunately for the Monegasques, nothing happened. The Red and Whites however had possession of the ball (61%) but only had sterile use of it. With waste in the last passes and in the last gestures, they had to wait until the 90th minute of the match to finally find the net, thanks to a header from Axel Disasi.

Before that, the Monegasques had not found the fault, for lack of accuracy in their attempts, or because of the talent of the Bracarien porter, Matheus, almost impassable on Thursday evening. He interposed several times in front of Wissam Ben Yedder and made six decisive saves, but it must be said that the players of the principality also helped him to shine. With the goal scored by Abel Ruiz in the 19th minute, the mission was almost impossible for the Red and Whites who gradually showed signs of frustration and fatigue.

The European page therefore closes for AS Monaco, also in difficulty in the league with nine points behind on the podium. The Rock club will still have to raise their heads as the reception of Paris Saint-Germain looms on Sunday.
