Sylvain Maillard, president of the Renaissance group at the National Assembly, was the guest of 4V on France 2, this Friday, January 26.

While farmers threaten to blockade the capital if decisions are not taken this Friday by the government, the president of the Renaissance group in the National Assembly, Sylvain Maillard, assured that the Prime Minister, traveling in Haute-Garonne, would make strong announcements. According to him, they will “unblock the situation.”Concerning the end of the tax rebate on non-road gas (GNR), Sylvain Maillard did not comment, believing that it was up to Gabriel Attal to do so. “We must ensure that our farmers, our market gardeners, our breeders can earn a better living. We hear their anger, they are right”he however conceded.

173 billion euros deficit

The state deficit for 2023, which is 173 billion euros, is close to the record of 2020. How can the state help farmers while being so in debt? Sylvain Maillard especially pointed the finger at manufacturers and large stores. “It’s up to them to make an effort”he affirmed, recalling that they must “respect prices as required by law.” He also pointed to too many standards and administrative layers. “Very concretely, we need to be able to accelerate projects” by asking that prefects be able to “derogate from the rules” to be “more efficient”he explained.“I too often hear farmers tell us ‘in fact, we have the feeling that the administration is not on our side, they are asking us for papers in permanence’. Some tell me ‘I spends 70% of my time completing form rather than being with my beasts'”he finally explains, assuring farmers that they will be “accompanied”.
