During his general policy speech to the National Assembly on Tuesday October 1, the Prime Minister made a series of announcements on security and immigration, in particular the strengthening of land border controls.

In this context, the Prime Minister, unsurprisingly, focused his general policy speech on security and immigration, starting with the strengthening of land border controls. Michel Barnier also announced that he was studying an extension of the detention period for foreigners in an irregular situation.
Another option: grant visas first to countries that agree to receive their expelled nationals. The objective is to more easily reappoint foreigners under OQTF. The Prime Minister also announced that he wanted to work on legal penalties, which he believes are not applied enough. Michel Barnier also promised to toughen justice for minors over 16, with the establishment of immediate appearances, and a review of “minority excuses” for heavier sentences. Furthermore, the government is committed to building new prisons to increase reception capacities.
