Iraqi Prime Moustafa al-Kazimi is out “unharmed” of a “failed assassination attempt” committed during the night of Saturday to Sunday November 7 by means of a “trapped drone” who targeted his residence in the Green Zone in Baghdad, the prime minister’s office said.
This attack was not immediately claimed and it was not known whether it had caused any injuries, as well as the extent of the material damage. “I am well, thank God, and I call for calm and restraint on the part of all for the good of Iraq”, Moustafa al-Kazimi wrote on Twitter.
The United States condemned on Saturday the attack on the residence of Iraqi Prime Minister Moustafa ak-Kazimi, denouncing a “apparent act of terrorism“. “We are saddened to learn that the Prime Minister is unharmed. This apparent act of terrorism, which we strongly condemn, was aimed at the heart of the Iraqi state.”State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
This attack is the first to target the residence of Moustafa al-Kazimi, in power since May 2020. It comes as the parties are negotiating to form parliamentary coalitions on the basis of the preliminary results of the October 10 poll.
