Two days after his general policy speech to the National Assembly, Michel Barnier was the guest, Thursday October 3, of the program “L’Évènement” on France 2. The Prime Minister notably specified that tax increases on the wealthiest will bring in two billion euros.

At Caroline Roux’s microphone on Thursday October 3 in the show “L’Évènement” on France 2, Michel Barnier continues to hold his line. Two days after his general policy speech, the Prime Minister justified his announcements to restore public finances, around 60 billion euros from 2025. “We are going to ask the largest companies which make more than a billion to make an effort, an exceptional and temporary effort. I think they can agree to make this effort”he explained.

Another avenue for reducing state spending: public services. “We will look at whether certain learning aids cannot be retargeted, we will merge public services, we will undoubtedly not replace all civil servants when they are not in direct contact with citizens or when they leave for retirement”added Michel Barnier. The government must present its draft budget for 2025 on October 10.
