To save energy, the Spanish Prime Minister wants to drop the tie. Pedro Sanchez called friday july 29 to follow his example and drop the tie to reduce the energy bill by using less air conditioning, without however estimating these energy savings.

“I would like you to note that I am not wearing a tie”, said the head of government, all smiles, showing the open collar of his shirt during a press conference in Madrid. PEdro Sanchez asked its ministers and heads of administrations to do the same. He invites the private sector to imitate them. “This is also how we can contribute to the energy savings that are so necessary in our country”he concluded.

The government will adopt at its next Council of Ministers on Monday “a set of urgent measures” to save energy, announced the head of government without providing details. These measures will be part of “in line with what other European countries are doing”.

Spain has taken several measures recently to reduce its energy bill as part of efforts called for by Brussels to end Europe’s dependence on Russian gas. Telework by civil servants is thus encouraged in order to limit air conditioning in public buildings and the thermostat of air conditioners must not be positioned below 27 degrees, so that the air conditioning of offices is done with a “lower energy consumption”according to a “energy efficiency plan” published at the end of May in the Official Journal.
