It is once again a question of purchasing power with a chain increase in different prices that end up impacting the price of fruits and vegetables among traders.

Lately, your vegetables may be costing you more. Among them, the carrot, a seasonal product whose price is increasing. At this primeur near Lille (North), you have to pay 55 cents more than six months ago, for a kilo. However, the manager assures him, his margins have not changed. This increase can be explained quite differently.

“Six months ago, we bought our carrots for less than one euro, today we buy them a little more than one euro. In selling prices, this translates into an increase from 1.95 to 2.50 euros per kilo “, says Julien Delcroix, first in Villeneuve-D’Ascq (Nord). How to explain that the consumer pays more, if the basic price does not change? The cost of transport is reflected in the price of vegetables. To limit the impact, it is therefore preferable to favor local products and the short circuit.
