Riding an entire generation of tobacco by 2032 is the objective of the government, which presented various measures this Tuesday, November 28, such as increasing the price of cigarettes.
By 2026, a pack of cigarettes will be sold for 13 euros and 12 euros from next year, one euro more than currently. This is the main measure announced by the Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau. “The various scientific and behavioral analyzes lead us to believe that this figure of one euro is one of the main determinants which can change individual behavior”, declared the minister.
More non-smoking areas
These increases are, however, considered very insufficient by anti-tobacco associations. “The government, like many governments, remains under the influence of the tobacco industry, under the influence of tobacconists. And it is clear that once again, it is the tobacconists who make the tax policy of the tobacco industry. ‘State”, says Loïc Josseron, pulmonologist and president of the Alliance Against Tobacco. Another announcement of this plan: the extension of non-smoking areas. These areas such as beaches, forests or around schools where cigarettes are prohibited, there are already 7,200 in France, their number must increase, in agreement with mayors and prefects.
