The war in Ukraine has accelerated this increase, since Russia is the world’s largest exporter of nitrogen fertilizer.

“Some farmers say, at this price of fertilizer, I will not fertilize my cereals”, indicates Alain de Scorraille, himself worried about this increase. Farmers fear lower production, while Europe could turn to the United States to buy fertilizer. “We are going to replace the Russian embargo with extremely expensive transport costs or gas costs”says Michel Portier, Managing Director Agritel, for whom fertilizer prices will remain high.
