At the end of 2022, the price of eggs will increase. Alexandre Peyrout is on the 12/13 set to take stock. The journalist explains that France could find itself in a situation of egg shortage: “In any case, this is what producers fear, for two reasons. First, because of avian flu. Since August, more than 770,000 poultry have been slaughtered in France to stem the spread of the disease. As a result, there are fewer laying hens, and therefore fewer eggs.” And to advance the second reason: “The problem is that at the same time, with inflation, meat and fish having become too expensive, the French have turned to eggs to ensure protein intake. +5.2% in September compared to 2021.”

This is why the price of eggs is increasing, as the journalist explains: “The price of a box of six red label eggs has increased by nearly 18% in one year, from 1.80 euros to 2.12 euros. This is obviously due to inflation: producers are suffering from full whip rising energy costs for the sheds, but also grain to feed the hens.” And bad news could still come. “To make matters worse, professionals are warning of a new price increase that could occur in the coming months, due to the cessation of chick grinding”concludes Alexandre Peyrout.
