The price of butter, like that of wheat, electricity and gas, drives up prices in bakeries. Example in the Landes, where the price of bread should increase by 5 to 10 cents in January.

In a bakery in Dax (Landes), the baguette has increased by 10 cents since December. In question, the price of energy, always more expensive. Esteban Costa, artisan baker, installed for three years, saw the price of his bills soar. “This is an increase of more than 40% for electricity, 35% for gas“, confides the latter. To keep his three employees and his apprentice, he had to increase his prices by 10 cents on bread, and 20 cents on pastry. Like him, many Landes bakers should increase the price of bread during the month of January.

Others have chosen to keep their prices. Céline and Laurent Saison, artisan bakers, also deplore an increase in the cost of energy and the price of flour. In their small bakery in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax (Landes), the baguette will however remain at 1 euro. The artisans decided to adapt. “You have to work without having too much loss, try to manage your stocks well… It’s true that it’s not easy “, reports Céline Saison. The price of bread is expected to increase by 5 to 10 cents in the department at the beginning of January.
