Food is becoming more and more expensive. According to INSEE, over one year, food prices have increased by 2.8%. “The rise will continue, you have to be extremely lucid and explain whycontinues the leader. Today there are objective tensions over raw materials.” Jean-Philippe André gives the example of eggs: “Ukraine is the first supplier of the European Union in terms of eggs. In addition, we are killing 15 million chickens in France, because there is avian flu“.
“Price increases will vary, between 1% and 2% up to 30% depending on the product. We have no control over inflation. We do not set prices.”

The sector representative assures that manufacturers will be transparent in their negotiations with supermarkets: “There will be no windfall effect. Our companies do not have the soul of speculators“.
In recent weeks, several more or less serious health alerts have concerned food products, including Buitoni brand pizzas (Nestlé) and Kinder chocolates (Ferrero). Jean-Philippe André evokes a “law of series” and expresses having “a lot of compassion for the situation that the families are going through” whose children were affected – in the Buitoni pizza case. But, the president of Ania assures that the controls, in the sector, are extremely numerous, and the incidents, extremely rare: “It’s very difficult to hear today, because there is this series law, but we are one of the countries in the world that has the highest standards.“
