After a remarkable first EP, Mangroves, the Rovskis return with their first album “The Prey is Queen”.
Sometimes fragile, sometimes powerful, the prey is not always what you think: once gone, it often turns out to be indispensable, and its fall precipitates that of its predator. The prey becomes queen, the queen becomes prey. It is this put into perspective power relations and their perpetual movement evoked by the title of the new album by the duo Rovski.
The urban amazons Sonia and Olive have healed their wounds and put all their dexterity at the service of the victorious song of the prey or the queen, reversing the roles, thwarting the obvious, uniting and crushing their differences to invent a common language.
The duo is a combination of complementarities, Sonia imagines, writes, composes; Olive composes, arranges, plays everything (viola, guitars, keyboards, percussion, choirs…) reinvents, restructures. The alliance of their requirements is transformed into musical complicity obvious.
The use of loopers and the multiplicity of instruments give rise to abundant and rich pieces, songs which have in common denominator a frontal energy to address the themes linked to the times we are going through: power relations, the end and renewal. for the individual and the collective.
