The head of the Macronist list in the European elections Valérie Hayer debates Thursday evening with Jordan Bardella on BFM. With less than 40 days before the election, the presidential majority is banking heavily on this face-to-face meeting.

A member of the Macronist campaign recognizes this: this debate between Valérie Hayer and Jordan Bardella on Thursday May 3 on BFM will be “an important moment, things are made and undone in TV debates”. In the polls, Jordan Bardella is at more than 30%, while Valérie Hayer is in difficulty at 16-17%. Suffice it to say that the head of the Renaissance list is in the guise of a challenger against the RN candidate whom Macronists describe as “formidable media beast”, of “impressive machine”. A close friend of the president sets the challenge: “knocking Bardella off Mount Olympus.”
To prepare for this duel Valérie Hayer has had several work sessions since the start of the week. “When he delivers elements of language, Bardella is very strong, explains an advisor to Emmanuel Macron, but it is not impregnable if we shift it to European subjects”. Valérie Hayer’s objective is therefore to take Jordan Bardella to the heart of the cases. “She masters the subject,” hammers those around him. The Macronist delegation to the European Parliament has been carefully compiling all the votes of the RN and Jordan Bardella for months. A basis to try to put him in difficulty. “She wants to catch him on the bottomsaid a relative, to make it a moment of truth about Bardella’s five years in Brussels”. The limit of the exercise is that this type of argument has had little impact so far. “If she can destabilize him and make him stammer on 2-3 subjects that won’t be bad,” hopes a minister.

But the difficulty for Valérie Hayer is that the RN is making this election more of a national election than a European election. The Macronists want to talk about Europe, but Jordan Bardella should not deprive himself of talking about the Franco-French situation, news items, etc. because the RN nationalizes the vote to make it a milestone towards the 2027 presidential election. “They are not addressing the same votersde-dramatizes a setting, the challenge is that it makes our voters hear the RN risk to encourage them to travel on June 9″.
At this stage, Valérie Hayer is not in full swing: only around half of Emmanuel Macron’s voters in the first round of the presidential election intend to vote for Renaissance in the European elections. Valérie Hayer’s team does not reveal all its cards on the preparation of the debate and the possible “sparring partners”, the training partners for role-playing, but recognizes that the debate of Valérie Hayer with Marion Maréchal, there at three weeks, had “A little” vocation to serve “training” facing the far right, in anticipation of the duel with Jordan Bardella.
