“In no case have I given my support or the support of the National Assembly to the Israeli government,” insisted Sunday on France 3 Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the National Assembly and Renaissance MP for Yvelines.

“I hope that one day Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace.” The President of the National Assembly and Renaissance MP for Yvelines, Yaël Braun-Pivet, made a point of clarifying her position on the war between Israel and Hamas, Sunday November 19, in “Dimanche en politique” on France 3. “I have always been very straight in my line”, she insisted. “My support is for the existence of Israel unconditionally and support for a democracy which has been the victim of the terrorist,” explained Yaël Braun-Pivet.

The elected member of the presidential majority then developed in an anaphora: “I plead for two States. I plead for the Israeli response to be as sparing as possible in human lives for civilians. I plead for respect for international law. I plead for humanitarian law. I plead for there to be humanitarian pauses in Gaza which will one day, I hope, allow us to obtain a ceasefire. I plead for the security of Israel and I plead for the security of the Palestinians.”

The President of the National Assembly thus responded to criticism, mainly made on the left, on the remarks she made during her trip to Israel on October 10, where she met her counterpart in the Knesset. She then said “in the name of national representation”, a “total solidarity” and one “unconditional support”. “This sentence has been hijacked”she assured Sunday. “What’s crazy about this debate is that you are being given thoughts that are not yours”she lamented again on France 3. “In no way have I given my support or the support of the National Assembly to the Israeli government.”
