Gabriel Attal promised measures on Tuesday “extremely strong” with a view to a “startle” of society and a restoration of “order”, “everywhere”, in the streets, classes and families, after several cases of violence between young people, sometimes fatal, near schools.
Olivier Marleix, president of the LR deputies on franceinfo, calls for a “real revolution in the penal response to minors”, with a “logic of short sentences”. The elected representative proposes, from the “first act of delinquency”, “a week, a month of deprivation of liberty to put a little lead in the kids’ brains” and this, in “adapted establishments”. According to him, “the question of the criminal majority must be asked” and the end of the minority excuse is “one of the elements of the answer”.
The deputy for Eure-et-Loir denounces “the irresponsibility of young people who are convicted”: “When you have young people who pass once, twice, three times, four times, five times for acts of violence and who come out each time with a suspended sentence, it’s is a kind of discharge. A minor who commits an offense and comes away with a suspended sentence has the feeling that he can do it again.” believes Olivier Marleix.
He also believes that“we cannot have a system of double irresponsibility”, the minor and the parents. As he said during the riots of summer 2023, “there is a question of parental responsibilityhe insists. I am going to ask that a provision be implemented that allows defaulting parents to be punished.”announces Olivier Marleix.
“A 13-year-old kid, all alone, in the street, on a night of rioting, it’s not even a question of whether he committed a crime, it’s a fault of his parents.”

“PFor kids who insult their teachers, who threaten teachers, obviously family allowances must be abolished. Parents must be made responsible.”says Olivier Marleix. “If parents are overwhelmed, they should report it to social services. We spend billions in this country on child welfare.”
