He doesn’t want the candidate in his department. The PS president of the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis, Stéphane Troussel, launched Thursday, December 2 a petition and a site to oppose the holding of Eric Zemmour’s meeting in Villepinte on Sunday, a “revolting symbol”. “Neither Seine-Saint-Denis nor ‘diversity’ can serve as a foil to those who attack the Republic, who hate France and who undermine its principles on a daily basis”, wrote Stéphane Troussel in a petition hosted on the pascheznous site, created for the occasion.

After considering holding his first meeting at the Zénith in Paris following the announcement of his candidacy for the presidential election, the far-right polemicist Eric Zemmour finally moved the event to the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte, in Seine-Saint-Denis. Referring to a diversity charter signed in 2009 by Viparis, owner of the premises, Stéphane Troussel pinpoints the company in his petition: “These commitments are absolutely incompatible with the reception of a polemicist who (…) is now leading a campaign whose only basis is racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, hatred of Muslims”.

“We cannot do ‘business’ with hate merchants, when we say we are defending the values of diversity”, he insists. “The Viparis group must explain itself: it must refuse to host the political meeting of a polemicist and presidential candidate multi-convicted of public provocation to racial hatred, in Seine-Saint-Denis!”, concludes Stéphane Troussel.

Asked by AFP, Viparis declined to comment. “We wonder who this gentleman is (…) to say who has the right to speak or not”, responded Antoine Diers, spokesperson for the Friends of Eric Zemmour association.
