The president of Rowing Bayonnais, Philippe Tayeb, filed a complaint on Monday May 6 against Yannick Bru, the coach of the Union Bordeaux-Bègles, for “intentional violence in a sports venue”, reports France Bleu Pays Basque.

An altercation took place between the two men during the Top 14 match on April 27 between Aviron Bayonnais and Union Bordeaux-Bègles at the Stade Jean-Dauger in Bayonne. Philippe Tayeb’s lawyer, Florence Réau, confirmed on Saturday her client’s desire to file a complaint. It was recorded on Monday, confirms the Bayonne public prosecutor. The prosecution will now take up the complaint and decide whether or not to open an investigation.

An instruction from the National Rugby League

After the rugby match lost by Bayonne against Bordeaux Bègles, the president of Aviron and the UBB coach, a former Bayonne coach, had a tense exchange. Yannick Bru extended his hand to his ex-president, but Philippe Tayeb refused to shake it. The two men had words and Yannick Bru gave him a “light tap behind the neck”. The two men have been at odds since the departure of Yannick Bru who had been at the head of Rowing for four seasons between 2018 and 2022.

Furthermore, this clash will also be the subject of an investigation by the National Rugby League (LNR). The body asked both parties to complete a file and present their versions. Furthermore, within the framework of this same meeting and “following incidents”, Aviron Bayonnais was also summoned before the commission on May 15. Philippe Tayeb’s lawyer indicated that she would not make further comments regarding the current procedure. Contacted by France Bleu, Yannick Bru’s lawyer has not yet responded.
