The president of Flair Airlines leaves office this summer

(Edmonton) Flair Airlines announced Tuesday the resignation of its president and CEO, effective this summer.

Stephen Jones has held the budget carrier’s top executive position since 2020.

During a turbulent tenure, the seven-year-old airline was expanding its fleet but also facing financial difficulties amid fierce competition.

Flair said a recruitment process for a replacement is underway and that COO Maciej Wilk would be named interim CEO until the board selects a successor.

Flair said its fleet of 20 planes “will continue to operate as normal” during the transition, although some obstacles from the past 18 months remain.

Mr. Jones suspended expansion plans earlier this year as the carrier grappled with plane delivery delays and heavy debts, including $67 million in unpaid federal taxes related to import duties on its planes. as of November.

In a statement, Mr. Jones said he was proud to enable more Canadians to travel thanks to the airline’s relatively low ticket prices.
