the premises of the Secours populaire du Sanitas in Tours burglarized for the seventh time

This is the seventh time in just a year and a half. The premises of the Secours populaire du Sanitas, allée de Luynes in Tours, was once again the target of a burglary, this week-end. The volunteers discovered the place upside down this Tuesday morning, stunned. The association is forced to close its doors for a week, the time to put everything back in order.

Stolen computer equipment and kitchen utensils

“It was a mess… They were everywhere, it’s discouraging”, sighs Josette Bouveyron, the manager of the Tours Center Sanitas branch. When she arrives at the local, she first notices the door smashed with a crowbar. And then, the devastated room. “In the shop area, they kicked everything out. In my office, there were papers all over the floor. They crushed cereal for the children’s breakfasts too.”

The burglars obviously did not leave empty-handed. “They took an LCD screen, a laptop, a desktop computer with the console and two printers”, lists the volunteer. That is 4,800 euros of computer equipment. More surprisingly, the thieves left with a whole heap of kitchen utensils, two coffee makers and a microwave, dishes, but also household products. “Even a toilet seat! Like they need to move somewhere.” However, no foodstuffs have disappeared.

Repeated thefts despite securing the premises

A burglary more important than the previous times, according to the association. “Seven times in a year and a half is still a lot”, laments Josette Bouveyron. However, during this period, the Secours populaire invested 10,000 euros to secure its premises. Bars have been installed on the windows. “But that is not enough”she notes, annoyed.

We are not going to give up – Josette Bouveyron, head of the Tours Center Sanitas branch

The association now plans to install armored doors, an alarm and video surveillance cameras. In the meantime, the local remains closed for a week, and should reopen on Tuesday, March 1 to the 400 beneficiary families.. “We will try to swallow the pill and continue, but we will not give up.”

The door smashed by the burglars is for the moment condemned. The premises are closed to the public until further notice.
