Let’s talk today about parietal art in Périgord Vert. It is about the story of a small blue horse, which is today the emblem of the cave of Villars, led by Catherine Birckel-Versaveaud… He is surrounded by other horses, of rather small size, in because of the lack of space to represent them. Our little blue horse has been drawn in a dynamic posture, the front limbs thrown forward. But why is it blue? Manganese dioxide, originally a black pigment, saw calcite spread over it and impose a new hue on it.
The Cave of Villars is open to visitors in July-August from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
