The Elrow electronic music festival which was to be held in Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) on the weekend of December 4 and 5 is banned by the prefecture, reports France Bleu Pays Basque. This festival was to welcome up to 9,000 people over two days.

This event is too risky according to the prefecture, which justifies this decision by advancing the degraded figures of the Covid-19 epidemic in the region, both in the department and on the other side of the border, “in the Spanish Basque Country where the incidence rate on December 1 was 509 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.”

In the middle of the week, the town hall had already taken the decision to cancel the festival, but the organizers had wished to maintain it, by strengthening the health protocol as they explained to festival-goers on Friday earlier in the day.

In reaction to the attitude of the organizers, the prefecture therefore issued an order this evening to ban the event. She assures that the organizers were aware that such a decision would be taken. “for reasons of force majeure”.
