The Ardennes prefecture calls for vigilance on water consumption, this Tuesday, May 17. The level of groundwater and rivers is particularly low, drought threatens the department.
“It is recommended be limited to what is strictly necessary taking care to save the resource“, indicates the prefecture in a press release. Individuals are therefore invited to avoid:
- baths, preferring showers
- let the tap water run
- wash their car
- fill their pool
It is also recommended “to water gardens, flowers and green spaces only if necessary” and rather at the beginning or end of the day. “The same applies to the cleaning of facades, roofs, sidewalks, sports grounds”. adds the prefecture. Furthermore, industrialists and farmers are also called upon to limit their water consumption to what is strictly necessary.
Groundwater recharge”was low and their level, very low at the beginning of spring, is close to that of summer”, explains the prefecture of the Ardennes. “The charging season, which runs from September 2021 to March 2022, was in deficitor 76% of the climatic normal.“
