“These signs of violence are absolutely to be condemned”declared Sunday morning on France Bleu Drôme Ardèche the prefect of Drôme, Thierry Devimeux, after the raid of far-right activists this Saturday evening in the Monnaie district of Romans-sur-Isère, a week after the murder of Thomas in Crépol.
This Saturday evening, around 80 far-right activists, “who came from all over France”, marched through the streets of the popular Monnaie district in Romans-sur-Isère. Police arrested 20 people, 17 of whom were taken into custody “following violence against the police”.
“We cannot respond to violence with violence”
“We cannot respond to violence with violence”denounced the prefect of Drôme, evoking “a few police officers who were injured”. A 20-year-old man from the ranks of the extreme right was hospitalized after being “beat down” by people who have not yet been identified.
“I strongly condemn this attack as I strongly condemn the attempted intimidation of these ultra-right young people.”
Thierry Devimeux, prefect of Drômein France Bleu Drôme Ardèche
According to the prefect, “a hundred police officers” are still present in Romans-sur-Isère on Sunday morning. And “they will be there for as long as necessary”. An ultra-right fringe is once again calling for demonstrations this Sunday in the city center. “I have made arrangements so that this demonstration, which is not authorized, does not cause disturbances to public order”assured the prefect.
