France was to set up a reception center near Menton (Alpes-Maritimes) for asylum seekers. Lhe prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes took the floor to categorically deny the information, which had circulated during the day of Monday September 18.
The latter spoke during a press conference live from Nice. “He wanted to correct the term used a little earlier throughout the day, not to talk about a migrant center (…) but rather a temporary police premises, in addition to the two border crossings which already exist here”reports special envoy Mohamed Mezerailive from Menton.
The authorities are looking for a place for the premises
The prefect wanted to correct the information to prepare for a potential influx of migrants that could occur in the coming days. “The authorities are still looking for a place that can serve as a police station which will complement the existing police structures”adds the journalist. The premises should provide a better reception for migrants. One of the avenues considered is a municipal plot.
