“I try to look with the greatest lucidity at what happened around the Stade de France that evening, it is obviously a failure.“. Here is what Didier Lallement said this Thursday before the Senate. The Paris police chief was heard by the senators about police management around the Champions League final at the Stade de France. “I assume full responsibility for the police management of the day of Saturday May 28“, he added.
Prefect Lallement made a point of highlighting the action of the police, “those who acted did so under my command, I want to salute them“, “without them, a tragedy could have happened“. However, he recognized in parallel “to be aware that the image of France has been damaged is a wound for me, because the love of the fatherland and the honor of the flag count more than anything“.
The Paris police chief wanted to have a thought for the supporters: “To our foreign guests, whether Spanish or English, who that evening did not all find safe conditions for a welcome, (…) I want to say my sincere regrets“.
