The PQ wants to replace imitations of Paw Patrol with Quebec programs

(Montreal) PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon promises to double the budgets of Télé-Québec, in particular to offer quality youth programming, and attacks the paw patrol and its imitations which abound on the airwaves of the Quebec public television channel with an educational and cultural vocation.

“You have Superwings, Robocar Poli, the paw patrol, it’s all the same show. It’s a plane, a train or the paw patrolbut they do exactly the same thing, “said the father of the family, accustomed to the morning shows of Télé-Québec.

“I inquired why the children liked it. It exploits the fact that kids are very fond of color and fast movement, but that’s not necessarily educationally sound. When you compare with the new version of Passe-Partout, and the programs that Télé-Québec makes, it’s day and night, ”he said. He criticizes these colorful shows where a group of anthropomorphic dogs, planes or automobiles help their communities with superpowers.

Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon wants to double the budgets of Télé-Québec, which would reach 140 million per year.

Quebec youth programs are so much better. I know it, I watch Télé-Québec every morning with my children and then between paw patrol and all the programs which are a duplication with a train and another baby, and our Quebec programs which are intelligent and educational. Let’s make Quebec content.

Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon believes that by increasing the budgets of Télé-Québec, he is investing “in our future and in the health of our children”. He believes that the foreign programs purchased by Télé-Québec “were created from a commercial angle and not from an educational angle” and cause “overstimulation”. They would be “replaced” by Quebec programs.

But not all of them, all the same. “There will be the paw patrolmy two year old son will freak out if there is no more paw patrole”, launched the PQ leader.

Anglo-American cultural and mental universe

The PQ is not the first party to venture into this field. The Coalition avenir Québec has already promised to invest 65 million in youth creation for Télé-Québec to enable the state corporation to add “100 new hours intended for children aged 3 to 12 each year” over four years. But Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon replies that for the CAQ, the heart is not in it. “The CAQ has not shown any interest in this issue. Of course, she will reply that she added to the budget and they will add figures for us. We say that there is a change of direction to be had, ”he said.

During this press briefing, he listed his promises in terms of culture. He wants to create a national museum of the history of Quebec, create an office for the promotion of Quebec cultural content to represent Quebec on global platforms like Netflix and give a cultural passport of $100 per year to high school, college and to immigrants. In total, it would inject 800 million over four years to promote culture and language.

For Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon, the future of the French language is at stake. “The cultural space, when we look especially at the cultural consumption of young people, it seems obvious that there has been a substitution of the Anglo-American cultural and mental universe to the detriment of the Quebec space. It has a lot of impact in the medium and long term on the French language, ”he lamented.
