The Parti Québécois (PQ) will table a bill to allow the dismissal of elected officials when they do not respect their commitments. An initiative that is in line with the decline of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) on the third link.
The leader of the PQ, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, maintains that the CAQ “has treated voters like electoral merchandise”.
According to him, François Legault never intended to fulfill the promise of the third link.
The PQ leader also asks the Prime Minister to officially apologize to Quebecers.
This PQ bill is inspired by the one tabled by Éric Caire in 2011. Mr. Caire wanted to allow the citizens of a constituency to dismiss an elected official with a petition obtaining a majority of signatures.
Éric Caire, who was an ardent defender of the third link, said in 2017 that he would resign if the CAQ backed down on the file.
After his government’s about-face last week, the member for La Peltrie decided instead to keep his seat and explain the decision to his constituents.
A petition launched last week calls for the resignation of Éric Caire. At the time of this writing, she had collected over 7,000 signatures.
