The Parti Québécois (PQ) of Paul St-Pierre Plamondon confirms its lead in the polls, at a time when support for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) is melting like snow in the sun.
The latter would have lost half of its voters in 16 months, according to a survey carried out on January 24 among 1,175 respondents by Pallas Data on behalf of Qc125 and L’Actualité.
François Legault’s party would now only collect 21% of voting intentions. Remember that in October 2022, he easily won the general election with 41% of the vote.
In comparison, the PQ — which has only four deputies in the National Assembly — currently obtains the favor of 32% of voters, according to Pallas Data, which represents an 11-point lead over the CAQ.
The other parties would stand still: Québec solidaire (QS) would collect 17% of voting intentions, compared to 15% for the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) and 12% for the Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ).
On December 6, Prime Minister François Legault attributed the dizzying fall of his party in the polls to three unpopular decisions, including that of having increased the salaries of deputies by 30%.
The respondents also criticized the subsidy granted to bring the Los Angeles Kings to Quebec and the procrastination of the CAQ in the matter of the third Quebec-Lévis link.

During the CAQ pre-sessional caucus last week in Sherbrooke, Mr. Legault said he wanted to put an end to “distractions” and refocus on five priorities: health, education, the environment, the economy and identify.
