The portrait is taking shape with the Alouettes

Deploying a clearer picture of the squad, the Alouettes were back in practice on Tuesday afternoon at Percival-Molson Stadium, where they will play their first game of the regular season on Saturday night against the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Montreal team has indeed made significant cuts over the past weekend. On offense, it should be mentioned that American wide receivers Keshunn Abram and Austin Mack are part of the active roster while Quartney Davis and Tyler Snead have found themselves officially on the practice squad.

Rookies Abram and Mack could thus be among the targets available to quarterback Cody Fajardo who will logically get the start against the Rouge et Noir. Davis Alexander and Caleb Evans are the other quarterbacks for the Montreal club.

The Alouettes must still limit their training to 45 athletes for the day of the game. The list of active players currently has 54 names. Among the 24 starters, it should also be remembered that the CFL team must absolutely bet on seven national players.

Several players released

Concretely, the Alouettes released a total of 15 players on Saturday, including quarterback Mike Glass III. American receivers John Brunner and Trevon Clark also suffered the ax, as did Quebecers Vincent Desjardins and Alec Poirier, two former Laval University Rouge et Or players. In the case of Maxym Lavallée, he will return to school, presumably with the Rouge et Or, thus obtaining the status of “suspended player”.

Head coach Jason Maas’ squad plans to train again at Percival-Molson Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition to Abram and Mack, two other rookies seem to be on their way to the new season, but on the Alouettes’ defensive unit. They are lineman Israel Antwine and defensive back JR Reed.
