Haiti is plunged into a spiral of violence. The population finds itself stuck between the police and the gangs, who have taken control of large swathes of the territory.
For several weeks, armed groups opposed to the government have been sowing terror in Haiti. The capital, Port-au-Prince, is now under a state of emergency. At the heart of the revolt, an influential gang leader who threatens the country with civil war if the Prime Minister does not leave power.
The displacement of tens of thousands of people who have fled gang violence to reach the south of the country in particular is increasing the pressure on the health system. The country’s hospitals are in difficulty and facing supply difficulties. The escalation of violence in the capital Port-au-Prince continues to deprive many children of medical equipment and medicines.
