According to the data, more than 1.9 million liposuctions were performed last year, a number up 24.8%. This fat removal procedure now accounts for 14.8% of all cosmetic surgeries performed around the globe.
“We’ve seen an interesting uptick in so-called ‘body contouring’ surgeries, such as liposuction, which is now ranked as the most common procedure, overtaking breast augmentation for the first time since many years,” noted Dr. Gianluca Campiglio, survey editor and plastic surgeon in Italy.
In comparison, 13% of surgeries were breast augmentations, relegating this procedure to second place with growth of just 3.8% over one year.
