Straight from America
And that’s normal because it’s corn and the West only discovered maize with the “conquista”, the discovery of America and the conquest of pre-Columbian empires, in other words pre-Christopher Columbus, in the sixteenth century. It is not impossible that the French were the first to discover popcorn, since in 1612, some adventurers from New France – today Canada – reported having eaten corn heated by the Iroquois who locked up grains in a pot that they heat. We use more or less the same mechanism today since we obtain popcorn by heating corn kernels, which contain water and, from 180 degrees, this water is transformed into steam and pops the grain. Moreover “Corn” means “maize” and “pop” we could summarize it by bursting.
There are two typical forms according to the Americans
The “mushrooms” popcorn, the mushroom popcorn and the “butterfly” popcorn therefore butterfly, more burst and moreover better. You can of course season it with caramel, chocolate or salt. More surprisingly, as it is biodegradable, and is very similar in texture to expanded polystyrene, it is used more and more to wrap fragile objects in the world.
It is in the cinemas that we eat the most in France, but you can do it yourself, with a popcorn machine or covered pan. Cooking is done with a lot of ingredients like popcorn, but it is mostly done with the heart.
