Five new ridings will be added to the federal electoral map from 2022, in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia. On the other hand, Quebec will be the only province to lose one. This redistribution of the electoral map responds to the evolution of Canadian demography. Inexorably, Quebec will see its political weight decline even further in Canada. It will “weigh” less and less in the choices of public policies of the federal government and will come under the growing influence of the western provinces and Ontario. Thus, Alberta will impose a political vision diametrically opposed to that of Quebecers, particularly in the fight against climate change, energy policies or multiculturalism. Quebec will be the main loser in this Canadian electoral and political reconfiguration. This is the price to pay for our belonging to Canada.
