A hit-and-run turned into a tragedy in Cherbourg, in Manche, on Sunday June 9.  A 19-year-old young man was killed by a police officer, she was taken into police custody and the IGPN was contacted.  (France 2)

“The police officer was placed under strict judicial supervision.” The police officer whose shooting fatally injured a 19-year-old young man after a check on Sunday evening in Cherbourg (Manche) was indicted on Tuesday June 11 for intentional homicide, the Coutances prosecutor’s office announced. Under judicial supervision, she is notably prohibited from going to Cherbourg and from exercising police activity, added in a press release the public prosecutor of Coutances, Gauthier Poupeau. A judicial investigation had been opened earlier in the day.

The 19-year-old man was trying to flee a police check for speeding on Sunday evening when the police officer “uses his firearm” touching him “mortally at chest level”, the Cherbourg public prosecutor detailed on Monday, before relinquishing the investigation, in favor of for the benefit of the Coutances education center.
