The policeman, sentenced to two years in prison suspended by the Marne Assize Court on October 7 for having blinded a Corsican supporter in Reims in 2016, has decided to appeal, reports France Bleu Champagne-Ardenne on Monday October 17.

The 50-year-old former police officer from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) was found guilty of hitting Bastia football club supporter Maxime Beux with a telescopic baton, resulting in the loss of his left eye.

The incident took place in the city center of Reims, as tension rose between police and supporters, after a Ligue 1 match won by Bastia against Reims. The policeman, targeted by a jet of smoke, had pursued the victim, who had just kicked his car, before hitting her. The supporter was then placed in police custody despite his injury and was not taken care of by the emergency services until an hour later.
