After 48 hours in police custody, the police officer implicated in Nahel’s death did not convince the IGPN investigators. The official was remanded in custody on Thursday, June 29.

The policeman who killed young Nahel after refusing to comply is, this Thursday evening, June 29, in prison. He is indicted for intentional homicide, a qualifier justified by the prosecutor of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine): “In the state of the investigations and the elements collected, the prosecution considers that the legal conditions for the use of the weapon are not met.” In police custody for 48 hours, the police officer did not convince the IGPN investigators.

The policeman’s story

In his auditions, here is what he says. It is 7:55 a.m. Tuesday morning when he chases a yellow car that is driving at high speed. He activates his flashing light and stops the vehicle. The latter refuses the control and restarts, then runs a red light. They catch up with him in traffic a little later. They put a foot down and ordered him to stop. The policeman shoots as the car restarts. This is according to him the only reason for which he would have fired: the fear that someone would be knocked down and the fear of being hit during his restart.
