Nearly 45,000 law enforcement officers have been deployed in the capital since the start of the Olympic Games. On patrol, some French and foreign gendarmes are also putting on a show on social media.

In a video posted on social media by the police headquarters, a police officer on a motorcycle dances in front of the bus of French athletes. Others take skateboarding lessons in the street. These incongruous images, which have gone viral online, show smiling police officers and a friendly audience. During their patrol in the metro, seven gendarmes rejoice at the welcome they receive in Paris during the Olympic Games. “People are happy to see us on public transport”enthuses a policewoman.

30,000 police officers are present in Paris and 2,000 of them have come as reinforcements from abroad. Among them, an officer from the Spanish Guardia Civile supports the French gendarmes in the metro, and stops to talk to a tourist from Spain. However, they do not detect any offences during their patrol, because pickpockets seem to have deserted the capital. Since the start of the Games, violent robberies have decreased by 24% in Paris.
