Before the shock of the winners, that of the beaten. While France meets the Netherlands at 9 p.m., Poland and Austria face each other at 6 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin (Germany), Friday June 21. Dominated by the Blues on Monday (0-1), the Austrians advance without certainty against Poland which lost with honors against the Netherlands on Sunday (1-2), and which will have to do without its number 9, captain, top scorer and most capped player, Robert Lewandowski, already absent from the first match with a knee injury.
The two nations find themselves in a continental competition five years after their clashes in the Euro 2021 qualifiers. Poland had dominated this qualifying group. Since then, the dynamic has been reversed and Austria advanced as an outsider for Euro 2024, after a round of 16 loss in overtime against Italy in 2021. The defeat of Ralf Rangnick’s men against France condemns them to a good result against the Poles.
