19/20 collected the moving testimony of a mother who has just lost her 22-year-old son. Andreas had chosen to fight in Ukraine. He is the third Frenchman to die in this war.
Andreas Gallozzi died in the East of Ukrainea region plagued by intense fighting. “They were attacked by the Russians and unfortunately his position was hit by a shell and he received a piece of shrapnel in the neck”, testifies Edith Gallozzi, his mother. At 22, he was on the front lines alongside the International Legion. Today, still reeling from the news, her mother immerses herself in her memories.
“There he was happy”
Andreas Gallozzi was passionate about combat. Before going to Ukraine, he spent time at the 17th parachute regiment of Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne). For a year and the start of her son’s commitment to Ukraine, his mother had regularly received photos of him in military uniform. “That’s before the last mission, he smiles. I know he’s happy there”, she says. On the pitch, Andreas Gallozzi made friends with some of his comrades. For her part, her mother appealed to the few French people who fought in this war: “Please try to stay alive, come back to us”.
