He wishes to testify, to explain the decision of his mother, this 78-year-old woman, very sick, chose euthanasia. That was a little over a year ago. “My mother, at that time, felt that there was a kind of countdown, because the cancer had spread and had also affected the brain, in particular”says Nicolas Milovanovic. “She was really afraid of losing her conscience, her personality.” In the palliative care unit, she asks for deep sedation. The doctor refuses, so she goes home, with one thing in mind.

“It was a deliverance for her”

“She already wanted to do it alone without telling me”relates Nicolas Milovanovic. “After this suicide attempt, she understood that there was no way out. It was really a cry for help”, he adds. The solution is in Belgium that mother and son will find it. “You have to meet the doctor in person, have a thorough interview with him, then meet with a psychologist. These two doctors have to give the green light”he explains. “Knowing a date was very, very hard”confides Nicolas Milovanovic, who specifies: “It was a deliverance for her”. His mother then only has 15 days to live. “It’s exactly what my mother wanted, until the last second”says his son.
