The PLQ reminds the government of its duty to buy locally rather than on Amazon

The Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy (MEIE), led by Pierre Fitzgibbon, neglected its duty to set an example by purchasing yoga mats and dish towels on Amazon rather than from Quebec merchants where this merchandise would have been available, supports the Liberal Party of Quebec.

Liberal MP André Fortin noted that the practices of the MEIE confirmed the failure of the Blue Basket, an initiative to promote local purchasing launched by Mr. Fitzgibbon to which the government allocated $22 million.

Mr. Fortin affirmed Thursday that the government failed in its duty to set an example by opting for products sold on Amazon in transactions concluded, in the majority, with Chinese sellers.

The duty reported Thursday favored Amazon over Blue Basket in 70 transactions totaling nearly $12,000 last year.

Le Panier bleu ceased operations last month due to low revenues.

More details will follow.
