The PLQ is offended that Legault is offended by a comparison to Jean Charest

The Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) accused Prime Minister François Legault of practicing “very low-level” politics because of the way he took offense at being compared to his predecessor Jean Charest.

Liberal MP André Fortin said Mr. Legault’s reaction to attacks from the Parti Québécois was a lack of respect for his predecessor.

“Honestly, I found it to be very low-level politics,” he said during a press briefing Tuesday.

In recent days, PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has made connections between the federalist positions of Jean Charest and Jean Chrétien and those of Mr. Legault on the question of sovereignty.

Tuesday, coming out of a question period, Mr. Legault took offense at these comparisons made by his PQ opponent.

“Is there anything more insulting than being called Jean Charest? he said as he walked towards his office. He even said Jean Chrétien, anyway. »

Mr. Fortin affirmed that Mr. Legault’s reaction broke with a tradition of respect towards the holders of the function.

“We are not obliged to agree with everything that has been done before, of course, but there is a certain respect for those who have passed, those who have occupied the position, those who have occupied the chair , those who put forward their ideas, their priorities. And Mr. Legault showed a great lack of respect. »
