The Pin Search Challenge has begun for collectors. How did this object become a cult item?
They may seem old-fashioned. However, the deluge of symbols and colours of the 1990s is still present. At each Olympics, the Pins make a new breakthrough, sometimes even closer to the athletes. This summer, Caroline Lopez, a member of the French archery team, will take them with her during the Paris Games.I think that’s one of the things I get noticed for.” she admits.
Pins and the Games have a long history together. Initially an identification badge, the Pin then became an advertising and collector’s item. While in 2024, a few surprising creations are dusting off this now cult object, the story began in 1886. Pierre de Coubertin gave a second life to the Olympic Games: to be identified, participants had to wear wooden badges, a distinctive sign that would last until the 1970s.
350 new models will be added to the Paris 2024 Pin collections.
