The Phenix application allows merchants to sell their unsold items. It also works for farmers, who use it to dispose of their overflow of vegetables or cheese. Report in the Yonne.
Phenix offers neighborhood merchants the opportunity to resell their unsold food on a mobile application, allowing both consumers to buy products at reduced prices, and merchants to avoid deadweight loss. Claire Genet, goat breeder at the Ulteria farm in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux (Yonne), started making cheese two years ago, and must process 300 liters of milk every day. To never throw away, she sells off her unsold items on Phenix. “We have amateurs who come to get some every week”she says.
Jean-Bernard Paoli is one of them. He watches for lots at bargain prices on the app. “A very good product, a good deal, we avoid wasting the goods that have been produced. In short, on arrival everyone is a winner”, he rejoices. Customers are geolocated by the application, and can thus see the food traders near them who offer baskets. “It can be greengrocers, caterers, butchers, cheese makers, and even more original things like breeders”, explains Clément Carreau, public relations manager for Phenix. Unsold items are sold off for 30 to 70% less.
